Colchester
& District Pipes & Drums were formed in early
January 2010 and are the fastest growing and most dynamic pipe
band in the UK, already boasting a membership of almost 30members.
We believe some our success is due to our high profile and
friendly attitude.
The
band uniform is the newly registered “Colchester &
District Tartan” designed by the band, adapting the colour
scheme and Logo from Colchester town’s own Coat of Arms. The
Cap, Kilt and Plaid badges are all modelled on the Colchester
Castle
.
Under
Pipe Major Paul Young the Band performs pipe music in the
traditional way and also cleverly blended and enhanced by
dramatic pre recorded backings. This unique combination is
infectious, unforgettable and promotes audience participation.
Apart
from the 60 local events this last year Colchester
& District Pipes & Drums have played at prestigious
events including for
Her Majesty the Queen at the renaming of the new QE3, before
Prince Charles at the Cenotaph for the war widows, before Queen
Beatrix at the Netherlands Remembrance Day, the garden party for
the Lord High Sherriff of Essex and the amazing Tattoo at
Voorthuizen to name but a few

History
Colchester
& District Pipes & Drums
was formed as a
Pipe Band in January 2010
and has grown to just over 25 playing members as of March 2010.
The Crest used by the band goes back to the year 1558 (See
Crest History) The members come from all walks of life with one thing in
common, we all enjoy playing traditional and modern pipe music
on the great highland bagpipes.
The band have played at a number of Charity events this year
including SSAFA and Help 4 Heroes in Lion
Walk, Colchester, this year we are booked to play at a
number of weddings, fetes, the cruise terminal at Parkeston
Quay and a School Prom See Events.
The
band proudly wear the Colchester & District Pipes
& Drums tartan, which was designed by our Chairman and is
registered as unique by the Scottish Register of Tartans.
